loveandtolerate asked: "I'm assuming that you've seen the movie by the amount of posts about it you've had recently, so what did you think about it? :)"

I absolutely LOVED Gatsby! Everyone who I talked to before was like “meh… It was ok,” so my expectations were not high.

Leo actually was a good Gatsby, and Sally Sparrow (I call her that because I lovvvvveeee Blink) was a rockin Daisy. Toby as Nick was meh, but it was ok because it put more emphasis on the crazy characters.

Of course I could talk about plot details that differed, but overall it stayed completely on par with the book. Like scary on par. In today’s time I expect the movie to differ from the book, but it was refreshing to see how accurate Baz was to the story. It wasn’t changed to give you a warm and fuzzy feeling, it was Fitzgerald’s book.

If I had to complain, it would be about the stupid 3D effects. This didn’t need to be a 3D movie. What I won’t complain about is the flashy/modern partying and even the pop music. People I talked to said, “OH MY GOSH! The partying should be classy and the music should be jazzy.” The music was indeed jazzy with a modern twist. I think that adds to the movie because, combined with the crazy parties, it parallels with today. Gatsby is meant to be a warning since Fitzgerald was depicting the dark side of the Jazz age. Honestly, we are almost in a type of jazz age now. Maybe we shouldn’t be so extravagant. And for the record, Gatsby’s parties in the book were full of alcohol. And I am pretty sure drunk people in the 1920’s acted the SAME WAY as drunk people in 2013.

However, if I had to say one thing that I loved, it’s that I felt sorry for Gatsby for the first time. He went from pathetic to tragic in my eyes, and I think that says a lot. I saw feelings that every human, including myself, has felt in this character. Instead of saying “yeah Gatsby is stupid, and I would never act as he did,” I saw his motives, and maybe that helped me see Fitzgerald’s message a little clearer.

I’m sorry for the long answer but I loved that movie! :D
